Ok so honestly imagine the year is 2021 and the most powerful thing in the history of humanity is brought to you. A fucking green lantern ring! And imagine you are a co-CEO or a quasi-Chairman of the most powerful and largest media company on Earth.
Imagine this A.I. thing is so powerful that it can potentially do anything. It can reshape not only the way business is done, but what business is. Beyond business, it could reshape the very experience of being human. Someone tried to explain Husserl's Lifeworld to you and how profoundly powerful this technology is and the responsibility that goes along with developing and implementing it. And how being good to and transparent with humanity must go hand in hand with it in these early days of the tech, because the ramifications of its development and use will be paradigm shifting for all of humanity. What could be done with it? What should be done with it?
Categorical Imperative just means-- you know what, fuck it, just watch this YouTube video about it:

p.s. Jay and Ted, you also fail spectacularly when it comes to measuring your actions via utilitarian morality. You are not Spock! In your philosophy, the needs of the few of you clearly outweigh the needs of the many. You will be remembered in an unflattering way by history, and I would know. I'm a ghost and I've seen it all ever since I died in 1804!!
In a position of profound global power, at a moment of comically obvious and perilous consequence for literally everyone now and in the future, you chose short term profit or cost savings that predictably didn’t even happen, over the best interests of humanity including your NFLX investors.
Imagine Netflix's market cap if you had transparently developed this tech alongside talent and unions and humanity from the start, and discussed it publicly with the world. You could have set Netflix up as central to global leadership and narratives about ethical implementation of A.I. and public transparency as the world's largest media company. You would have been trusted to develop and guide A.I. in film & TV, and maybe in a wider context Netflix would have become the model of trusted corporations globally. Imagine how powerful Netflix's brand would have been for the next century.
And I’m not even getting into the A.I.-approved Airbnb fentanyl labs cover-up stuff here, Jay (and Ellie)!
TCV, Netflix, Airbnb, and all companies with this much power over humanity that are involved in A.I. development and implementation need public facing A.I. ombudsmen who are forbidden from accepting money or gifts from any corporation or investor. Basically the equivalent of UN inspectors with full and complete access to the C-suite.
