These Netflix execs simply do not care. Go get your money back.
This “school” has no surety bond with the California Labor Commissioner as a Talent Service provider, and is also operating as an Advance Fee Talent Representation Service (they’re making you pay to add you to their roster, and the same people making the casting decisions are evaluating you at the “school”), which is illegal in the state of California.
Their website promises the opportunity to work, and guidance toward a career, for paying participants.
Their draped-in-approved-Netflix-clips social media promises paying participants will be added to the roster of talent, and also advertises itself as an “internship”.
This is one of only two recording studios in the US that these execs allow to record live action English dubbing for Netflix. And multiple times, these Netflix execs hosted the "Dub School" operators at their Sunset Blvd office and framed them as the creative "North Star" for attending recording studios and directors. These execs also called casting professionals into the Sunset Blvd office and told them they will no longer be used for Netflix English dubbing.
And not only are you being illegally made to pay for the opportunity to work, but these Netflix execs have such disdain for talent that they orchestrated and sanctioned this “school” while they are also quietly sending most of the work to Canada for A.I. training. So unless you flew in for the week from Montreal for the "school", this seems to be maliciously predatory.
I mean how ridiculous is all of that? It's like cartoon villain stuff. And I would not blame the recording studio or the instructors etc-- every one in the chain is coerced to blindly do whatever Netflix wants because they control most of the work. They reasonably assumed legality because it is orchestrated and sanctioned by Netflix.
I would go get my money back if I were you!
